The four evangelists, St John, St Luke, St Mark and St Matthew are all depicted in Roman togas at their writing desks, each accompanied by their own attribute: an eagle, a bull, a lion and an angel respectively.

The harmony, serenity and close nature of life in the beguinage are instantly palpable as visitors pass through the high baroque entrance gate from 1671. St Catherine’s church, dedicated to Saint Catherine whose help was often called for burns and skin conditions, is a typical 14th-century beguinage church.  The building was recently restored and the façades finished with lime plaster.
