A decided must-see is certainly the magnificent St Dymphna altarpiece from the 16th century, which consists of more than 200 oak figures depicting her life and martyrdom, her veneration on Earth and entrance into Heaven. The piece is crowned by a calvary, each scene on top of a decorated base.

St Dymphna’s church

The gothic church of St Dymphna was originally a place a pilgrimage where, according to legend, the martyr and her confessor Father Gerebernus lay buried. The Infirmary, which housed pilgrims who came for their novena at the church, is built onto the south side of the tower, its interior unsurprisingly being dedicated to the saint.
