As Jesus visits Simon the Pharisee, a crying woman, later identified as Mary Magdalene, approaches Him to anoint His feet out of shame for her sins. The other guests look on in amazement and indignation... But the Gospel story illustrated how forgiving Christ really was. Dunkerque painter Jean van Reyn lived in the 17th century, was taught by Antoon van Dyck and painted altarpieces and portraits.
Located close to Beauvoorde Castle, this gothic church has retained its churchyard and numerous traces of its Romanesque past. Its exceedingly atmospheric interior is even more special, thanks to its furniture and artworks from the 17th and 18th centuries.
